The Reconquest promotes with “Pulitzer” tone

He was born in Vigo, and Works as interior designer, Mr. Xosé Manuel Pena, 40 years old, won this year the poster prize of the Reconquest. Its image inspired in a photo of the Second Word War, will promote the event.


At Sunrise behind Cies Islands and in the foreground a group of people from Vigo dressed with typical clothes of two centuries ago pick up a big flag of the city to hammer it highest up in the San Sebastian castle. This picture, that remembers the Photography Pulitzer Mr. Joe Rosenthal, prizewinning because of his Photo “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima” taken during the Second World War when Americans seized the Japanese Island, will be this year the photo which will promote the Second Century of the Reconquest.
Xosé Manuel Pena, who was born in Vigo and works as interior designer, won the first prize of the Reconcuest poster organized by the Regional Culture Ministry and the Old Quarter Neighbourhood “from the beginning I have clear the idea. The picture of Joe Rosenthal seem attractive to identify the unity and identity of people from Vigo, and the idyllic background of Cies and San Sebastian cattle emphasized the of Vigo as a region”.
The Culture Town Councillor Mr. Xesús López, and the president of the Old Quarter Neighbourhood, Mr. Henrique Macías, stressed the big participation in the prize this year. “It is the first time that 15 proposal have been presented” they said. “it is an important year because we celebrate the second century of the concession of city title to Vigo” clarified the Culture Responsible.
Organization has also award David Rodríguez and Raul Cardoso with two consolation prize of 400 euro each because of its posters “Rachado” and “Muller”.
