Xosé Ramón Barreiro Fernández

President of the Galician Royal Academy

He has a bachelor’s degree and a PhD in Canon Law from the Gregorian University of Rome. In 1974, he got a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and the Arts with an extraordinary prize and then got his doctorate in History from the University of Santiago de Compostela, with his thesis titled "The Galician Peasant in the 19th Century: Economy and Society". He is presently a tenured lecturer of Galician Contemporary History at the same University. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Geography & History and is the President of the Galician Royal Academy since 20th December, 2001.
His research is especially focused on Galician contemporary history and he has published several articles and works both in Spanish and Galician.
